New Site: genwap.com

August 21, 2005 by · Comments Off

genwap.com has been launched. It’s a PDA and Smartphone-friendly mirror of MobileGenealogy.com.

It will provide very basic genealogy software news and information, that can be easily viewed on a PDA or Smartphone.

Although it is not in a WAP format at this time, it can still be easily accessed by any PDA/Smartphone browser.

For general genealogy content and information (including databases) in a PDA/Smartphone-friendly format, please refer to Illya D’Addezio’s Mobile Genealogy Information Website. Although we are not associated with Illya D’Addezio, we highly recommend his site to PDA/Smartphone users.

If you notice any errors or have any suggestions on improvements for genwap.com, feel free to contact us

PocketPC Magazine Renamed

August 18, 2005 by · Comments Off

By way of Aximsite.com, we’ve learned that PocketPC magazine is going to be renamed to Smartphone & Pocket PC.

From the press release:

Now once again in 2005, because of projections for explosive Smartphone growth, a major market shift has taken place. The newest incarnation of the Windows CE-based handheld operating system called Windows Mobile 5 provides PDAs and Smartphones a similar look and functionality. Therefore, starting with the 2006 Buyers Guide on newsstands in November, Pocket PC becomes Smartphone & Pocket PC.

It will still be seen on the web at PocketPCMag.com. They’ve been very good about mentioning genealogy software, with reviews, and including ‘Genealogy’ as a software category in their ‘Best Software Awards’ issues. Hopefully they will continue the same.

Pocket Genealogist 2.96c beta (2.96 pre-release)

August 16, 2005 by · Comments Off

From Kevin (Northern Nills Software)

Pre-Release 2.96C has been put on the Public Beta site. It has only one fix(over 2.96B) applicable to FTM/PAF GenBridge imports. If you aren’t doingthose types of imports, you might wait until 2.96D in a couple weeks whichwill have DNA support for TMG 6 and Legacy 6.

The FTM/PAF GenBridge fix was a situation where a spouse of a child for thecurrent couple could incorrectly be listed as a sibling. (But only when that spouse has no other parents)
