Pocket Genealogist 2.96.11 and 2.96.12 Pre-Releases

Two more pre-releases of Pocket Genealogist from Northern Hills Software available, versions 2.96.11 and 2.96.12. Pocket Genealogist is a Pocket PC/Windows Mobile-based genealogy application, that supports several major Windows-based genealogy programs.

Version 2.96.12: Additional changes in support of Ancestral Quest “Collaborative” databases and other miscellaneous AQ fixes.

Version 2.96.11: Additional changes in support of Ancestral Quest “Collaborative” databases.

Northern Hills Software Note: Pre-Release versions of Pocket Genealogist can be considered as good as production releases but have not yet been “officially” released.

Wireless Access in Libraries (Eastman’s)

There’s a good article in Eastman’s Online Genealogy Newsletter about using a laptop’s wireless connection when you are doing research in libraries and research centers that have wireless internet access:

Being seated in the Family History Library does not mean that you have to be isolated from the outside world, although that may seem desirable at times. In fact, you can sit in front of a microfilm viewer with your laptop computer to one side and check your e-mail or surf the web, looking for even more genealogy data to corroborate what you have just found on microfilm. If truth be told, I wrote this article and sent it to my editor via e-mail while seated in front of a microfilm viewer in the library.

HEREDIS Mac X.2

HEREDIS Mac X.2, a Mac OS X genealogy application, has been released.

One of the new features that maybe of interest to PDA genealogy users – you can export your individuals from your database to your Address Book, as well as events involving your ancestors to iCal, both of which you can then sync to your PDA (Palm using iSync, or Windows Mobile/Pocket PC using the various 3rd party sync programs.

GedWise 6.3.2 (Mac OS X)

Battery Park Software has updated their Mac OS X installer for GedWise, their PalmOS-based genealogy application. This brings GedWise for Mac OS X up to version 6.3.2. This update “added compatibility for GEDCOM’s created on different computer system that use various end-of-line terminators.”

Pocket Genealogist Pre-Release 2.96.9 and 2.96.10

Two pre-releases of Pocket Genealogist from Northern Hills Software are now available – Pocket Genealogist is a Pocket PC/Windows Mobile-based genealogy application.

Version 2.96.9 added a fix to display of “principals” for “child” based events such as Sealed to Parents.

Version 2.96.10 added support for Ancestral Quest “Collaborative” database.
